CLUBHOUSE ON KELLY FARM

An Enriched Before & After School Program for School Age Children

FAQ: Welcome

INFORMATION TO HELP YOU TO DECIDE IF THIS PROGRAM IS RIGHT FOR YOUR FAMILY

HOW DO I REGISTER MY CHILD?

If this program sounds like a good fit for your child, let's schedule a meeting to discuss your child's specific needs and get to know each other a little bit more. Children are welcome to join the meeting!

At the meeting, we will review the program policies, and review your family and child's specific needs (including pick up/drop off, medical and/or nutritional needs).   I will answer any questions you have, and provide references.

At the end of the meeting, you will be provided a Program Registration form to complete. If we feel that this program is a fit right away, we can complete the necessary documentation to secure your spot. You are also welcome to to take the program material home and review it further before deciding. In order to secure your spot, a Program Registration form must be complete and a deposit of $210 (2 weeks) must be made.

The deposit will be returned in full if cancellations occur with at least 2 weeks notice before the program start date. Otherwise, the deposit will be kept on file and used towards your final two week payment.

At this time, the program is only available to children attending OCDSB's Findlay Creek School.

The program operation dates follow the OCDSB school year.

WHAT IF I ONLY NEED PART TIME CARE?

Part time program enrollment will be assessed on an individual basis depending on spaces available.

ARE THERE ANY DATES THAT YOU DO NOT OFFER THE PROGRAM?

The program does not operate on statutory holidays, March Break or Winter Break. The program ends when the school lets out for summer break. If you would like help locating summer camps, I am happy to help!

WHAT IS THE FEE PAYMENT SCHEDULE

Parents will be provided with the fee schedule for the school year upon registration.  This schedule will include the additional cost for PD Days. If you do not intend to send your child on a PD Day, the fee will be adjusted.

Fees are due on the 1st and 15th of each month.

The first 2 week installment payment must be made prior to your child attending the program.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS SICK?

If you child has a fever over 38 degrees Celsius, is unable to participate in regular school activities due to illness, and/or if they are vomiting and/or diarrhea, it is best to keep them home to prevent the illness from spreading to other program participants.

If your child becomes ill at school, I may be available on occasion to pick them up on your behalf and they can rest at the Clubhouse on KF until you are able to leave work to pick them up.  Generally, there is no extra fee for this, however, it will be evaluated on an individual basis.

The daily rate will still apply in the event your child needs to stay home due to illness.

WHAT IF I AM LATE FOR PICK UP?

I know that unexpected things that need attention at work can pop up unexpectedly as you are trying to get out the door.

If you will be late to pick up your child, I ask that you please let us know as soon as possible. This way, I can let your child know that they will be staying a little longer.

Twice within the school year (Sept-Dec & Jan-June), parents will have one grace late day for when the unexpected happens.  After this, an additional fee of $5/child per 15 minutes may apply.

WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING?

I am a Child & Youth Worker, with a diploma an degree in this field, and a member of the Ontario Association of Child & Youth Care. I have a Masters in Education and am currently teaching aspiring Child & Youth Workers on a part time basis with Algonquin College.

For over 17 years, I have worked with children in various settings, with a focus on child centered engagement, promoting healthy socio-emotional development and facilitating programs.  My approach to working with children is creative, consistent, child-centered, nurturing and engaging.

WHAT DOES ENRICHED PROGRAMMING MEAN?

Each program activity is selected to promote healthy pro-social and emotional development.

Routines are developed with an understanding of the unique needs of school age children; and modified as needed to respond to individual needs.

The program environment is child-focused, and is intentionally designed to create a sense of belonging, to promote healthy social relationships, to incorporate child strengths and to offer opportunities for the development and application of new skills.

WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO CHILD BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT?

My goal is to create an environment that is consistent, welcoming and child centered in an effort to proactively address any potential acting out behaviours. That said, I am a parent and know that the best laid plans do not always work out!

Upon beginning the program, the Clubhouse on Kelly Farm program rules will be discussed and children will be invited to contribute to the list.

My approach to discipline is pro-active, consistent, behaviour focused and child centred; with a focus on child engagement and accountability. Consequences, when needed, will be natural and/or logical; with a focus on problem solving and skill building.

There will be a quiet space for children who need to to take some time to calm down and come back and join the group.  This will always be followed by a discussion about the behaviour and strategizing about what they could do next time.

In the case of consistent acting out and/or aggressive/violent/other unsafe behaviour that impacts the other program participants and/or creates a safety risk, an evaluation of suitability of this program will occur between myself and the child's parents.
